Beyond The Pass
For when Mum says we’ve got Anthony Bourdain at home.
What?
Beyond the Pass is a video series in which I visit restaurants, interview the people running them about their stories, and attempt to cook alongside professional chefs without making a complete tit of myself.
The idea came about during a content meeting when I was asked to pitch something and, having given the matter approximately four seconds of thought, suggested that we do exactly that.
Unexpectedly, everyone agreed. Even more unexpectedly, they gave me a budget.
A few highlights from Meta:
Bar Copo (Ep. 6): 5.9 million impressions
Piccolo Me (Ep. 7): 4.2 million impressions
Tento (Ep. 3): 3.1 million impressions
Why?
We wanted to give Lightspeed some authority in the hospitality industry, which we decided to achieve by not talking about Lightspeed at all. Not once.
We made a deliberate decision: no product pitches, no conversations about software, and no asking customers to tell us how wonderful Lightspeed was.
Instead, we'd visit the people running the businesses, talk to them about what inspired them to start a business, how they'd made it work, and what they planned to do next.
And because I'd spent 15 years working in hospitality, I could get into their kitchens and demonstrate that at least one person at Lightspeed knew which end of a knife to hold.
